(More customer reviews)This simple, yet inspiring, book of all kinds of birth stories really helped me when I gave birth. I recommend it to all pregnant women. Good for midwives and doctors, too! Maybe they could learn something to help their patients give birth in a way that is meaningful to the women, not all tied up in the medical model where the woman comes last.

The book is designed to help partners, childbirth educators and assistants to acknowledge the woman's power and do all that they can to assist her in the safest and most respectful way. In the author's view, a midwife is there to guide the woman in labor, to answer questions, to listen to fears and concerns, to offer different solutions to problems--whether it may involve mainstream medical technology or the use of herbs, visualization, massage, counselling or caring.
