The jacket comes with a number of logos and the American flag. The logos are not authentic military insignia, but they look like they are. (Aviators will frequently add logos of squadrons they've served in rather than replace them). It also has an imitation lambs wool collar (polyester) similar to the real look of the World War II bomber jackets. The inner lining is a map and the zipper is in the shape of an airplane. There are two large cargo pockets that can hold a full jar of Gerber chocolate pudding even at size 2T, or maybe his IPod if he is really precocious. It has a stretchy waist and wrists to insulate against the weather if the cockpit gets too cold.
When this little pilot gets strapped into his car seat he can pretend that he is lining his aircraft up on the driveway, uh, runway, getting his commands from the tower: "Ace, David, Flight Two Tango, use runway three four. You are fully armed, loaded, and ready for take-off.
Squadron Leader David Lysander starts his engine, pushes his throttle forward for full thrust with flaps up for maximum climb. As his dad makes a left turn onto the street, he kicks the right rudder pedal hard as he throws the joystick to the left turning into a slip to avoid a missile aimed at him. "Wow! That was a close." "Two hostiles, port angels twenty," he shouts to his mother, who is also his radar intercept officer. Both parents look at each other. They share the same thought: "Hope Uncle Ed doesn't buy him a helmet."
David is flying high in his Aviator jacket. He's just not allowed to wear it to bed.
