(More customer reviews)I used this planner as a guide for my wedding. I found the details in each chapter helpful and informative for my planning. There are pockets at each chapter header to allow you to stuff papers, business cards, and the like allowing this to be the only item you'd need to carry around.
Each chapter starts w/ something you can read detailing questions to think about and the best way to handle things like registering for gifts, selecting your officiant, and wedding traditions you may want to include in your ceremonly. At the end of each chapter are pages to keep track of notes, details on vendors you've seen, questions that help you narrow down your choices and a few pages dedicated to questions that allow you to journal your experiences. (Brides are busy and for me, this book covered the basics and more.)
I loved the elastic band that came around the book. It was sturdy enough to keep all my papers and samples in once place while I went throught the decision making & planning processes.
I would recommend this planner for purchase and have given in to multipe friends as engagement gifts.

(More customer reviews)I bought four wedding planners/ ettiquette books for my wedding and I found this one to be the most helpful of ALL of them! The ettiquite books are great for reference, but the other PLANNERS are too large for taking to appointments! (most are 8x11" or larger) This planner's SIZE is perfect, and it had everything in it for ALL of my appointments...all the information I needed, plus worksheets and space for notes. I have recommended the book to 4 friends of my mine who are getting married and all 4 have thanked me over and again for pointing out this book to them! We all had different budgets and ideas, and the book helped all of us to plan the perfect wedding! My suggestion: get this book and a small day planner or calendar, take them with you to every appointment, and you'll be on your way to your dream wedding!

For example, at my last marriage (my second), I ripped my wedding dress waist high and if it hadn't been for this book, my maid of honor wouldn't have saved the day with the needle and thread she so cleverly hid in her bouquet. Anyway, this book is great!

Emily Post's Wedding Planner Review

(More customer reviews)My fiance and I were just beginning the wedding planning process, and neither of us had had much experience with weddings. We wanted to know more about what is supposed to happen (ideally) and who is supposed to do what (ideally): who pays for which expenses, who performs what roles during and before the ceremony, what kinds of extra-ceremony events to consider having (shower, bachelor party), etc. We are not ultra-conventional people and not slaves to tradition; however, we did at least want to know what the traditions were before breaking them. This book was perfect for that purpose. Peggy Post has done a wonderful job of presenting the basic facts about the traditional American wedding while also pointing out the many, many areas where those traditions are surprisingly *flexible*. Thanks to this book, we were able to plan a wedding that was both socially correct AND perfectly suited to our own particular values, sensibilities, and budget. The book is easy to use, well-organized, and has an excellent overall tone--unlike the Martha Stewart wedding planner, which although very well-organized is rather brusque in tone and not user-friendly. Also unlike the Stewart book, the Post book does NOT require that you be rich. Most of the advice in the Emily Post wedding planner can be followed with low dollar amounts as well as with high dollar amounts. Thank God! It was a big relief to know that a wedding can be perfectly gracious and correct without necessarily being ridiculously expensive. The planner was also useful for resolving disputes: we bought copies for our parents as well, so that if there was ever a question or debate, we could simply refer to page whatever and that would be the end of that. Heaven knows there is no more authoritative source on these matters than Emily Post!

Working Woman'S Wedding Planner 3Rd Edition Review

(More customer reviews)You need a planner and it might as well be this one. It includes every possible form and list you will ever need for your wedding. If you're having trouble putting it all together, this will help you organize.
That said, it's a good planner but don't look to it for guidance as far as the details of your wedding are concerned. You will need something else (bridal magazine, etc) to help you locate a site, interview possibilities, and compare prices. This book literally will give you a place to organize after you have selected all the components of your wedding. It only helps you plan and organize what you have already chosen.
In addition to the forms and lists, there are chapters written by the author. Tatsui-D'Arcy simply glazes over different parts of your wedding presenting the traditional stance and a few modern variations. Unfortunately there isn't a lot of room to write notes outside of the forms and lists themselves.
The author does include some useful information as it relates to how those with blended families could write their invitations and how an engagement announcement can be written.

All the questions answered in this book are very targeted to each section. If you never planed the wedding or you have no idea what the formal etiquette is this book will be really helpful. Its small format allows you to carry it with you and be like your small cheat sheet.
Highly recommended for all first time brides or parents who help to plan the wedding.

Anti-Bride Etiquette Guide: The Rules - And How to Bend Them Review

(More customer reviews)I have recently become engaged, and I'm dreading planning a wedding. I picked up this book because the questions are already beginning, and I was hoping to find some polite ways to tell people to back off. This book does offer some suggestions there, and overall, it helped me become a bit more excited about the process without drowning me in details. I do wish that they had included more than they did in this book. For example, they give some suggested text for invitations. They tell you that "request the honour of your presence" is only to be used for ceremonies held at a place of worship. However, "request the honour of your presence" is used in *all* of their suggested formal wordings. They didn't provide a single example of the etiquette for a formal wording for a wedding held outdoors or in a banquet hall or other non-religious location. Considering that they suggest alternate locations in several places (and even recommend destination weddings as an option, which I found refreshing as I'm figuring on having one), this omission was glaring. There's several other little things like that where I feel a few more pages would have made this book perfect.
Still, I do recommend this book. I haven't looked at any other wedding guide or book, and I feel like I have a grasp of what is needed, what obstacles may come up, etc. The tone is terrific, and the structure is easy to follow when read as a whole or in tidbits here and there.

(More customer reviews)I can't believe how informative this book is. It tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about planning your wedding. It has forms for you to fill out everything pertaining to the big day...jot down who is going to be in the bridal party, what food do you want to serve, etc. It tells you how to get a caterer, florist, photographer, etc, and tells you all the questions you need to ask them beforehand to make sure you're getting the best value for your money. It also explains how everything is done in Christian and Jewish ceremonies. There are so many things in here you would never even think of...how to set a budget once you are married, what forms of birth control to use, it explains all the different styles of gowns and veils, tells you what the mother of the groom and bride are supposed to do, who pays for what, and there is a calender for you and him for each month to tell you what needs to get done. If you thought of it, it's in here. They even give you suggestions of what song you could dance the first dance to, how to preserve your dress, and more. This is a REALLY great deal on a wedding planner.

My main and only problem of the book is where is the "budget" aspect of the book as it says in the title. They offer numerous and helpful tips and advice about planning a wedding, even an elegant wedding. But for those actually looking for advice on keeping a wedding under a limited budget, this isn't the book. For real and practical budget advice, I recomend Bridal Bargains by D. Fields.

(More customer reviews)I've read three different wedding planning books, and this one is absolutely the worst. I actually took this book quite seriously when I first began planning my wedding, but then after going through all the different tasks involved with planning the wedding, I re-read the book to see if I missed anything or could do anything better. After spending a few hours re-reading this book, I was shocked at all the misleading information in it... not to mention the snobbiness of the person/people who wrote it! I was so mad I almost threw this useless book straight in the garbage!
For example, the "average" costs and price ranges of nearly every item they list is WAY off. I think they must assume that every bride is going to spend $100,000 to get hitched... and that mommy and daddy are paying for everything (they even give you a "tip" advising you to "act" grateful for your parents' money).
The tips they give for couples on a budget are the most harmful and misleading part. We are planning a wedding on a budget, as are most brides and grooms now-a-days who aren't the children of millionaires. For example, in response to one of the questions asking if it is okay to have a cash bar at the reception, they advise you to NEVER EVER EVER have a cash bar, and, if it is absolutely necessary to save money, limit the number of hours your guests can get alcoholic beverages. HUH? So a bride and groom, trying to save money, will now think they are bad hosts because The Knot told them they have to spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars they do not have just so their guests can get drunk.
Another thing, as I mentioned before, is that their price estimates are way off. For example, they lists wedding gowns as being between $700 and $15,000. While that can certainly be true, you can find a WIDE selection of wonderfully beautiful wedding dresses for FAR less than $700! In fact, there are entire chains of wedding stores in which almost every dress is under $500! The problem with this is that some poor unsuspecting bride is probably going to pay way more for her dress (a dress she will only wear once, mind you) than she needs to, just because this book told her the low range for a wedding gown is $700. (Just so you are aware, future brides, I bought my wedding gown, a Gloria Vanderbuilt a-line gown with a five-foot train, all lace above the waist and along the hem of the dress, for $250 at David's Bridal. Do NOT be fooled by the price ranges in this book! You CAN and WILL get a beautiful dress that everyone will love for FAR less than this book estimates!)
Also, they are missing important information in the photography section... the digital revolution. They talk about black-and-white film... FORGET FILM!!! Nearly every photographer now uses both film and digital, and oftentimes a digital camera will give you as-good or BETTER quality than film. Plus, you can choose from black-and-white, full color, partial color, or sepia on any photo taken. Also, in the video department, practically no one puts their wedding footage on videotape anymore. This book is completely out-of-date.
Wedding invitations do NOT have to be done by a professional. While it's nice to have beautiful-looking invitations, you CAN get this by making them at home. Invitation kits can be purchased for very little money, but they have everything you need to create beautiful invitations in a very short amount of time with very little effort on your part. You can do this for a large, formal affair, not just a "small or less formal affair" like this book suggests. And with the number of fonts you have on modern computers, and people's tendency to have bad handwriting in an age where everything is typed, why on EARTH would you hand-write a hundred and fifty address envelopes, like this book advises?!? Like I said, out-of-date.Honestly, you'd be better off figuring it out yourself than listening to anything written in this book. There are VERY few actually useful tips in here and most of it is common sense (if you're not an idiot, that is). This book is written by snobs who think that every wedding must be a fairytale wedding that costs tens of thousands of dollars (if not hundreds of thousands) and provide horrible advise for brides who have no experience with organizing a wedding and are trying to do so without going bankrupt before they even begin their lives together with their new husbands. AVOID!

(More customer reviews)I have bought about 5 different wedding planning books and countless wedding magazines, and none of them had EVERYTHING in them like this one. This planner has wedding music suggestions (actual songs) for the first dance, bouquet toss and garter throw. It also includes a list of not to miss photos for your photographer. It gives information aboout formations of the bridal party in the procession and recession. Also it has a list of attendants responsibilities. There are worksheets for vendors and questions to ask each vendor. If I could give this book 6 stars I would, I definately recommend it to all brides-to-be. I gave it as a gift to my newly engaged friend and she adores it also. Good luck!
