I have to admit that I had my share of doubts when "How to become Emirates Cabin Crew" by Caitlyn Rogers landed on my desk. Quite frankly, I just wasn't so sure how useful a book targeting the future flight attendants for Emirates Airline could be for anybody outside that limited and select group. I mean, how many cabin crew members could they even want to hire? So I plunged in without any particularly great expectations.
And I was immediately amazed... and hooked. Ms. Rogers begins by listing some facts about the Emirates Airline - and what facts they are! In slightly over two decades since they were founded with two leased aircrafts they have grown to an award winning world class carrier, receiving over 300 international awards for customer service. During the last financial year (2006/07), they carried 17.5 million passengers. They served 90 destinations and 59 countries with nearly 550 flights each week. So I guess they must employ a fair number of cabin crew...
The following parts of the book introduce the Emirates Cabin Crew, What Emirates look for, The application process, The interview process, Questions and answers and Post interview. In an easy to read and fluid style Ms. Rogers informs the reader about everything one should know if one is considering applying for a position with the Emirates. Every aspect of the process is described in detail, with great examples and numerous tips. Not sure if you are eligible and suitable for the job? Wondering about the salary and benefits? Need to update your resume, but don't know how to make it appealing to the Emirates? Which photos are suitable to include with your CV? How should you dress? What to do about your hair and your make-up? What is the best way to enter the interview room? How does one exit gracefully? How should you handle the tricky interview questions? What about the dreaded tests? All this and much more is covered and written about in an approachable way. Although Ms. Rogers is clearly an expert, she never sounds preachy or condescending. Reading her book is much like having a trusted friend helping you with the whole process.
After having finished reading "How to become Emirates Cabin Crew," I had to conclude that it would be a great help to anybody looking for a position - and ultimately a career - in any customer service related industry. Anybody who will study this book well should be more than prepared to ace an interview and change their life.
