(More customer reviews)Seriously, this book is so jam-packed with practical tips and advice that you will be brimming with confidence and therfore won't need to limit your choice to a small airline simply because it has a more relaxed selection process or less competition.
I am not really the anxious type and am usually quite together when it comes to interviews , but the cabin crew interview had me shaking in my boots. There are so many horror stories floating around and the mystery of the whole process, along with a huge 6 months wait if I fail, made me a nervous wreck. Determined not to let my nerves hold me back, I purchased 'The Cabin Crew Interview Made Easy' by Caitlyn Rogers. As always, Amazon's customer service was excellent and I had the book in front of me the following day.
There are 246 pages in total, and I'll tell you that there isn't much white space filling out the book. The first section is called 'Pre-Interview Research' and really just goes into the job itself, the requirements, salary, benefits and the like.
Part 2 is where things really start to spice up 'The Application Process'. Here you will learn everything about the application form, CV, photographs and cover letter. There are samples of each document and each is accompanied by some great tips that will have you creating your own juicy documents.
Part 3 is where all the dirt is - 'The Interview Process'. This section starts with preparation, this includes what to take to the interview, to-do's and not to-do's, etc - A very simple section that highlights some common sense, but often missed, information. 'Appearance and etiquette' is next and really clarifies a lot of mis-concieved ideas and will have you standing out - you definately won't be just another person in a suit. With this part, I liked the separation for for men, women and unisex.
'The Group Assessment' covers just that. From self presentations to group discussions to full-blown activities, it's all here. Ms Rogers tells you what the interviewers are looking for during each assessment and how you can really stand out from the other candidates. This part closes with a section entitled 'The Secrets Revealed'. If you don't read any other part of the book, you must read this.
Next is 'Aptitude Tests'. This section gives you a brief rundown of what to expect from Maths, Psychometric, General Knowledge and English tests. Following is 'Height and Weight Check' - again just a brief overview of health and fitness requirements, nothing too concerning.
Finally, part 3 concludes with 'The Final Interview' which is broken into two parts, the first containing do's and don'ts and the second - Part 3a - is dedicated to questions and answers and is appropriately entitled, yes you guessed it, 'Questions & Answers'. This section is enormous, it spans an entire 117 pages and is quoted as containing over 200 answers. The questions range from the obvious 'Why do you want to be cabin crew?', 'What are your weaknesses?', 'Why should we hire you?' to the less obvious and tricky 'When have you experienced a pressured situation?', 'When could your customer service have been better?' and 'How would you deal with an irate passenger?'. I really like the answers as they are very positive and concise, they definately give you an idea of how to costruct your own to good effect. Rather than leave you there, Ms Rogers also outlines a technique that will enable you to create your own answers - definately something I utilised on more than onc occasion.
The book finally comes to a close with 'Post Interview' which briefly advises what to expect after the interview. There is a 'Forms' section that you can fill in to keep a record of your interviews, and a concluding index of all the questions and answers for quick reference.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to get into this exciting career, and any other customer service career for that matter. It is a great reference to have at your side and will not end up being a door stop - I can assure you.
