Nursing Assistant / Nurse Aid Exam (Second Edition) Review

Nursing Assistant / Nurse Aid Exam (Second Edition)

This book has been updated with current trends and is within the guidelines of today's nursing assistant testing/licensing. Unfortunately, there are a few typos that need to be corrected by LearningExpress.
Exam #4 and Exam #5 are very thorough and should not be taken lightly. Very good review of my 200+ hour course. Purchasing is well worth overlooking the typos. I hope this helps all of those looking for a new career.
I wish you all well with your new journey!

Pandora's Clock Review

Pandora's Clock

I am one of those people who is terrified of flying. I have only done it when absolutely necessary. After reading "Pandora's Clock", I don't think I'll EVER get on a plane again. Quite a chilling premise, and overall, well told by Mr. Nance.
I sometimes felt that the dialogue was not realistic, and some of the scenes felt redundant and not totally necessary. The characters are fun to "ride" with---Captain Holland and aide Rachel are typical hero figure and very likeable. Holland's nemesis on the plane, a smarty-pants "reviewer" starts out pretty obnoxious, but turns out to be okay at the end. The chemistry between Rusty and Sherry Ellis is fun and provides some additional levity. Eager beaver and acting CIA director Jonathan Roth is one of those people John Lithgow or Tim Roth would play, and is effectively menacing. The killer Russian pilot Yuri is an interesting character, although what happens at the end with him is a little far-fetched. Nice climactic scene at the end, though, and does offer that chilling fear of "What would happen if this really happened?"
RECOMMENDED.

There are millions of workers in the USA that rely on tips for most of their income, and there are well over two million businesses where the employers rely on tipped employees. According to recent statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor, food and beverage service-related workers held 6.5 million jobs in 2000 alone. The U.S. Department of Labor estimates in a 2001 study that tips and gratuities may account for well over $5 billion per year being left on plates and tip trays, financed on credit cards and handed directly into happy, open palms. But let's face facts. Relying on customers' tips for your income is tough. The average customer just doesn't realize how difficult and hard the average waiter, waitress, hair dresser, concierge, cab driver, maitre de or bartender works for their money. Dealing with and satisfying the general public is one of the most demanding jobs around. Many, if not most, tipped employees have a tough time making ends meet. And then there are the complicated IRS tax laws regarding tipping and gratuities that most employees and few employers know how to handle correctly. For the first time this new book deals with all aspects of tips and gratuities. For the employee or self-employed, learn how to earn more tips and how to properly account for and pay taxes on them. For the employer: how to manage and properly account for the taxes on tipped employees; for the bookkeeper and accountant: get the latest on tax and withholding laws. Apart from all great and practical advice in the book, it has to be remembered that tips have to be earned, thus there are literally hundreds of little tricks, hints and suggestions to help tipped employees – well, make more tips!

PBX Systems for IP Telephony Review

PBX Systems for IP Telephony

After only 29 pages I found myself constantly asking "what is that, and when did the author define it?". Additionally, there are enough oddly worded sentences that I am unable to follow what is being said. Perhaps I am not the intended audience for the book, but since Sulkin did not include a forward, I can't tell. I am trying to use this as an initial guide to PBX, and find it lacking enought that I am now looking for another book.

This was a wonderful book that had great information on the Peoria State Hospital. The personal stories of the patients that lived there really kept my attention and made me feel for the people that are mentally ill. I learned a lot that I didn't already know.
I would recommend this book for anyone in the mental health field or anyone that is interested in the history of mental health facilites.

The book will be a history of the facility, hopefully, it will be more than just a history of dates and events. It is the purpose of this book to personalize the Peoria State Hospital through the use of personal memories of the patients and staff.
A few miles from the city of Peoria, Illinois at the bottom of a beautiful bluff overlooking the Illinois river, are the remains of an old set of stairs. For more than a half-century after the turn of the twentieth century these stairs led from a train station located at the bottom of the steep hill up to the grounds of the Peoria State Hospital. This stairway, partially covered by weeds and debris, itself, is today a forgotten reminder of the once stately facility which was located there.
It is impossible to know just how many patients, nurses, doctors, workers and visitors used these stairs over the years to gain access to the hospital grounds. These stairs, depending upon what one reads or to whom one talks, were a stairway to heaven, to hell, or to somewhere in between. Only one thing is sure, everyone who climbed these stairs was profoundly affected by what they found there...
This book seeks to understand what really happened at the hospital during its fascinating history and to do so as accurately as possible. In the end, the individual reader will be allowed to draw his or her own conclusions regarding the Peoria State Hospital and the thousands of men and women who, at one time or another, called it, no matter how briefly, ''home.''

Come Fly With Us: A Global History of the Airline Hostess Review

Come Fly With Us: A Global History of the Airline Hostess
Average Reviews:

The past couple of years have really done a lot for those who are interested in aviation history, particularly commercial flight. Vanity Fair magazine published two articles, one of which was excerpted from Mary Wells' "A Big Life In Advertising," which details how she helped transform stodgy Braniff Airlines into a delight of color and design, with stewardesses dressed by Pucci. These articles obviously whetted the interest of many, which is why "Come Fly With Us: A Global History of the Airline Hostess" is so timely. Forget "Coffee, Tea or Me" -- this is the true story of airline hostesses, chock-full of amazing historical photos garnered from the vaults of airlines such as Quantas, Pan Am, TAP and TWA, to name a few (and aren't a couple of those out of business?). The text provides interesting historical facts (airline hostesses did far more than serve coffee and pass out blankets; at one point, they were registered nurses!) and is a great read, whether you're a frequent flier or a "trains-only, please" traveler. In fact, I plan on bringing it on my next flight in hopes of being upgraded, as I'm sure any current airline hostess or host familiar with this book will be pleased to cater to me even more!

When the first commercial flights took off in the 1930s, stewardesses were registered nurses whose duties included swatting flies and helping passengers read railroad timetables in the event of forced landings. In the 1950s, stewardesses were viewed as wives-in-training, as adept at preparing a baby's bottle as mixing a martini. By the swinging '60s and '70s, female flight attendants were considered successful marketing tools, sporting microminis, hot pants, and buttons that read "Pure, Sober, and Available" to lure male business passengers on board. Come Fly with Us! explores the unique history of this industry pioneered by women, tracing changes in the flight attendant's role — from flying nurse to airborne sex kitten to today's custodian of safety and service. Stunning visuals from airline archives and early flight maps, promotional brochures, and print advertisements re-create a sense of the early days and underscore the dramatic changes that have occurred in this dynamic industry.
